About Us

Catalina Island Medical Center is the result of more than a century of evolving medical care on Santa Catalina Island. Although it is one of the smallest hospital in the state, due to its unique island location, it historically has provided many of the health services typically found only at larger facilities. It serves its patients through a truly integrated healthcare delivery system consisting of physician offices, an acute care hospital and skilled nursing services along with its extensive outpatient programs. In 2010, Catalina Island Medical Center began the transformation to electronic medical records, creating a state-of-the-art comprehensive healthcare information system.

With more than 70 full and part time employees, Catalina Island Medical Center is one of the largest employers on the island. The non-profit facility has annual revenues of $7 million, which includes about $425,000 from a city-wide sales tax subsidy as well as grants, donations and contributions from fund-raising organizations.
Although the hospital is owned by the City of Avalon, Catalina Island Medical Center operates under the direction of the Avalon Medical Development Corporation, a private not-for-profit community based corporation. The seven members of the Board of Directors are all residents of the island and have a long history of being a part of the dynamic success of Santa Catalina Island.

Both the Auxiliary and the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation have a tradition of success in their respective areas of raising funds for the patients of the medical center and cultivating support for the Hospital among the residents and the community’s many supporters and visitors.
